Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord

In Vain

A large ensemble of 24 musicians performing in the theater's spotlights delve into microtonality as the night slowly takes over the stage.

Théâtre des Bouffes du NordPerforming and listening in the dark, the In Vain experience is unique for both the performers and the audience. In distancing himself from the tempered world, the Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas sets off on a radical sensorial journey. Slowly, inexorably, the work follows an infinite spiral, affected by the acceleration or deceleration of the lines, a sonorous and visual "vanity" reminiscent of Escher's drawings, staircases that go up and down simultaneously.
